So, having problems dog crate training your Dog? Don’t worry. Dog crate training can be a great way to give your dog a place of his/her “own”. A place to escape to, a place to just hang out, or a place where they can rest comfortably and feel like they are in a familiar environment.

First off it is easier, as it is with any kind of training, if you start while your dog is a puppy. Sometimes, an adult dog can feel “closed in”, and removing the top of the dog crate can help them get accustomed to their new space without them feeling so confined. Your dog should be so familiar with it, they won’t even care.

Remember to furnish the dog crate. Make sure there is warm, dry bedding. Make sure your dog has clean water all the time, and if your dog is going to be confined for more than two hours, maybe attach a hamster-type water dispenser with ice water to the door. The dog crate should be your dog’s “happy place”. Not a place they associate with punishment or unpleasantness.
